This one should be a breeze. There's going to be even more available in this season. There are all kinds of sweaters, jackets, and footwear that protect your tiny baby out around Halloween. I know that you can find great Chihuahua clothes for wonderful Halloween outfits, not only as a because of her cute little size, but because of the wide sections to choose from.  Obviously, I am a little bit biased because I've owned a couple chihuahuas, yet quite a few believe me until the dig's are dressed up in little dog clothes. Only people that have had the experience of dressing up their Chihuahua or small canine in dog clothing, know how gratifying it is for both owner and pet alike. And trust me, the dogs always adore the affection and the warmth of the clothes in the colder seasons too.

From my experience, I doubt the Chihuahua would oppose any costume, given the fun you will have together and the doggy treats they'll receive! Of course comfort is first, and during Halloween it could be really cold in the fall, or not that cold, so make sure your doggy is warm enough, but also not overheated. If a lady dog like my little jelly bean, a dress might be very cute, but not warm enough as far as dog clothing goes.

Be sure to check for tags that could irritate or poke your dog's skin, since it might cause discomfort or cause a rash on the skin. And always make sure that her little dog collar is fitting snugly but comfortably around her neck.  Chihuahua's can be hypersensitive so be sure to check. You don't know if there's something in the material that could cause a sensitivity so watch for any reactions - always important to consider with any kind of Chihuahua dog clothing and accessories.

If you're taking your doggy out to a party, he'll be so well dressed for the occasion in the best Chihuahua clothes you can buy! If going trick or treating, then the costume will help make her more visible to cars in case she gets excited and runs into the street- though it's not likely to happen if you have a proper lease or a well-trained doggy.

Some useful things to add just in case are reflective strips if you have a rambunctious dog, though a lease is the best option. Even so it never hurts to be safe - always care for your Chihuahua.

The classic west highland terrier grooming practices leave the dog's back shaved and long hair on the sides and legs. That means that the natural waterproofing provided by the long guard hairs in the untouched Westie coat can no longer do their job. If you are going to take your dog out in the rain for any length of time, he definitely needs a raincoat. It doesn't have to be stylish, complicated or expensive. The only thing it really needs to be is waterproof

I also like to have at least one good winter coat for my Westie. She doesn't really need it, because we let her hair grow out in winter and she handles the cold quite well, but it makes me feel better during long winter walks if the dog is warm. My rule of thumb has become: if I need a coat, the dog needs a coat.

As far as I'm concerned the most important criteria in a winter coat are

• warmth and
• simplicity.

The coats I tend to favor nowadays have an outer shell which is sort of waterproof, and a good faux fleece lining. That takes care of the warmth factor very well. When I talk about simplicity, I mean the design of the coat. A simple collar around the neck and a good strap under the belly are all that's needed. Don't get fancy and spend a lot of money on wrap-around, form fitting coats. The most important thing is that you can get the dog into or out of the coat with minimal fuss. Dogs hate being fussed over and having things pulled over their heads, so more complicated designs of dog coats just don't pass muster.

Finally, only buy dog coats that have velcro fasteners for your Westie. Forget the cute buckles and snaps. The don't stand up to much use and they aren't secure. A good, wide strip of velcro is the only thing that makes sense. It holds well, even if the dog runs, and its almost infinitely adjustable. Simple, clean and secure. That's all you need.
